Japan Meteorological Agency 90% of animal and plant observations will be abolished by the end of the year "Sakura" will continue observation November 10 16:34

The Japan Meteorological Agency has decided to abolish about 90% of the observations of animals and plants that have been continued for about 70 years, such as the first cry of animals and the flowering of plants.

This is because the urbanization around the meteorological observatory has made it difficult to observe, but we will continue to observe "Sakura" and "Kaede".

The Japan Meteorological Agency has been conducting and publicizing "biological seasonal observations" such as the first squealing of animals and the flowering of plants since 1958, about 70 years ago, with the aim of communicating seasonal changes and climate changes.

There are 57 types of flora and fauna that are observed by the staff of meteorological stations in each region, such as "Uguisu", "Aburazemi", "Sakura", and "Ume". There is also "Make a mistake".

However, in recent years, the ecological environment has changed due to urbanization around the meteorological observatory, making it difficult to secure specimen plants and find target animals.

For example, "Tono wandering" was confirmed at 38 locations nationwide in 1953, when observations began, but last year it was only 5 locations.

For this reason, the Japan Meteorological Agency has decided to abolish the observation of 51 types of animals and plants, which is about 90% of the total.

On the other hand, observations will continue for "Sakura," "Ume," "Maple," "Ginkgo," "Susuki," and "Hydrangea," which are suitable for grasping seasonal and climate changes throughout the country.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said, "For many years, we have published many types of information that make us feel the seasons, but it was unavoidable that we made this decision. We will continue to observe some plants, so please continue to refer to them." It is said.
