  • A handful of feature films provide an overview of French detective cinema.

  • Humor, suspense or film noir are well represented in this anthology.

  • Great moments of the 7th Art that Jean Ollé-Laprune also deciphers in his book “French Police Cinema”.

chose five films, all available on DVD or on platforms, to occupy his confinement under the sign of humor, suspense or the darkness of a merciless world.

With advice by next age group who is likely to watch the movie with you.

From 9 years old: have fun with "The Happy New Year"

Did you know ?

Claude Lelouch's

Happy New Year

(1973) was a film so dear to Stanley Kubrick's heart that it showed it to the actors he hired for his films.

This pas de deux between Lino Ventura and Françoise Fabian has not aged a bit.

“The complicity between the two headliners is prodigious, explains Jean Ollé-Laprune, and Lelouch's staging is a marvel of lightness with its alternation between color and black and white.

It is ideal entertainment for all age groups.

"

Jean Ollé-Laprune's book, French detective cinema is as erudite as it is fascinating!

I highly recommend it.

From 12 years old: Shiver with "Le Corbeau"

In

Le Corbeau

(1943), Henri-Georges Clouzot shakes a provincial town with anonymous letters which reveal the more or less shameful secrets of the inhabitants.

This cruel film always surprises with its modernity.

"Clouzot had put everyone back with this film which was even banned at the Liberation, specifies Jean Ollé Laprune.

The story is still so powerful.

It is moreover in reference to Clouzot's film that the author of the anonymous letters of the Grégory Affair has been nicknamed "Corbeau".

"

From 13 years old: Shiver with "Harry, a friend who wants you well"

Harry, a friend who wants you well

(2000), a scary thriller by Dominik Moll, confronts Laurent Lucas with a psychopath played by Sergi Lopez.

The latter plays a former comrade who spoils his life as a pretext for helping him.

"This is undoubtedly the best film with Sergi Lopez," comments Jean Ollé-Laprune.

He is terrifying in this sweet and relentless character which is all the more disturbing as he claims to act for the good of the hero.

This film is ideal to watch with teenagers because it is both scary and fun at the same time.

"

From 15 years old: Scare yourself with "The months of April are murderous"

Jean-Pierre Marielle finds one of his most beautiful roles in

The Months of April are Murderous

(1987) by Laurent Heynemann.

He moves as he tracks down a former soldier who gives him a hard time.

“It's a dark film that I consider a black diamond, insists Jean Ollé-Laprune.

A great introduction to the genre!

Jean-Pierre Bisson is particularly impressive there against Marielle.

Laurent Heynemann wanted him to be scary and it really is.

"

From 17 years old: But what are the police doing in "The SK1 Affair"

In

The SK1 Affair

(2015), Frédéric Tellier looks back on the police's long investigation to corner Guy Georges, the “Killer of eastern Paris”.

Raphaël Personnaz and Olivier Gourmet are at the center of this fascinating drama, so the action takes place over eight years.

“The film is interesting for teenagers because it shows how the French police work, insists Jean Ollé-Laprune.

Frédéric Tellier has done meticulous research to tell this true story.

The film is harsh although it does not show any scenes of violence.
