The autonomies extend the

after reaching a new maximum number of deaths from coronavirus this weekend (512 more than on Friday), hospital pressure increases and intensive care occupation, where ten communities exceed 30 %.

Not all is bad news, the American pharmaceutical company

Pfizer

and the German firm BioNTech have reported that studies of their vaccine against covid-19 show an efficacy of more than 90% in participants without previous evidence of infection.

By contrast, Brazilian authorities have suspended trials of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine after a volunteer suffered "a serious incident."

7.00 Brazil suspends trials of the Chinese vaccine against covid-19 due to a "serious incident"

Brazil's health regulator has announced that it has suspended clinical trials of a Chinese

coronavirus

vaccine

after a volunteer suffered "a serious incident."

The Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) "decided to interrupt the clinical trial of the

CoronaVac

vaccine

after a serious incident" on October 29.

The agency did not provide details on what happened, but indicated that such incidents could include death, possibly fatal side effects, severe disability, hospitalization and other "clinically significant events."

The public body that coordinates the trials of the vaccine in Brazil, the Butantan Institute, was however "surprised" by the decision.

The institute "is investigating in detail what happened" and "is at the disposal of the Brazilian regulatory agency to provide any necessary clarification on any incident that may have occurred in clinical trials," he added.

US authorizes synthetic antibodies against coronavirus

The United States drug regulatory agency (FDA) has granted a temporary authorization for a new type of treatment against the

coronavirus

, synthetic antibodies manufactured by

Eli Lilly

, only for mild or moderate patients.

The treatment has been developed specifically against the new

coronavirus

.

Others, such as

remdesivir

and

dexamethasone

, received authorizations after having shown some efficacy against the pathogen, but their molecules already existed before the pandemic and had other uses.

The FDA gave an "authorization for emergency use" of the new treatment, based on the results of a clinical trial conducted with 465 non-hospitalized adults.

The treatment called

bamlanivimab

is given as a single injection into a vein.

These antibodies mimic what the immune system does after infection with the

coronavirus

, blocking the tip of the virus that allows it to adhere to and penetrate human cells.

Trump criticizes his own government and Pfizer for not announcing the coronavirus vaccine earlier

The outgoing US president, Donald Trump, has criticized

Pfizer

and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), an agency of his own government, for not having announced the results of the drug's vaccine earlier.

"The FDA and the Democrats did not want me to achieve a WIN in vaccines before the elections, so it has come out five days later, as I said all the time!", Said in a series of tweets Trump, who has not yet recognized his electoral defeat.

"If Joe Biden were president, they would not have the vaccine for another four years, nor would the FDA approve it that fast. The bureaucracy would have destroyed millions of lives," he said.
