New Corona Vaccine Priority vaccination for the elderly and people with underlying diseases Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare November 9, 17:17

Regarding the vaccine for the new coronavirus under development, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has decided to give priority to the elderly and people with underlying diseases.

On the other hand, for pregnant women, we did not decide whether to give priority vaccination because there is no data from clinical trials.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has signed contracts with three European and American pharmaceutical companies to receive the vaccine if it succeeds in developing a new coronavirus vaccine, and is aiming to start vaccination in the first half of next year.

On the 9th, a study group was held with experts to discuss the order of priority vaccination.

Among these, regarding inoculation to non-medical workers, it was confirmed that the policy is to give priority to the elderly first and then to inoculate people with underlying diseases.

On the other hand, pregnant women have not participated in clinical trials in Japan or overseas and have not decided whether to prioritize vaccination due to lack of safety data.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has a policy to consider what kind of underlying diseases should be given priority vaccination in the future, taking into account the opinions of academic societies.

At the same time, the government subcommittee will consider whether to inoculate health care workers with the highest priority.
