Filipino-American Maria A Ressa is awarded the Tucholsky Prize "For her resistance when free speech is restricted.

For her courage to face threats, hatred and harassment ", writes PEN in a press release.

Ressa started the site The Rappler eight years ago and there were several revelations about corruption and human rights abuses.

She was sentenced to between six months and six years in prison in June this year for "defamation online" after she published an article examining Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's exercise of power.

The award ceremony will take place without an audience at Bonnier's Art Gallery in Stockholm on Imprisoned Authors' Day on 15 November at 3 pm.
