André Saint-Prix was born in François (Martinique) on February 10, 1953. Raised by his grandparents, he evolved very young in the popular tradition of the island.

Publicity

From the age of 6, he faced maternal anger to live out his passion, the "

chouval bwa

", that is to say the music that accompanied the traditional wooden horse rides operated by force of men.

Barely a teenager, Dédé already participates in small groups in his native town, such as

Les Trouvères

and

Les Juniors

.

Member of the municipal choir, he recorded his first album at the cathedral of Fort-de-France in 1968, he was 15 years old.

After playing in various groups including

La Sélecta

and

Malavoi

, Dédé Saint-Prix creates

Pakatak

, experimental training in rhythmic research, to give back all the space to the music of his childhood and rehabilitate the Martinican identity somewhat invaded by the Ka of the neighboring island, Guadeloupe.

At that time, Dédé pursued his 2 careers simultaneously: teaching and music.

Aztec Music

In 1991, he resigned from his post as a teacher in the National Education Department to devote his energy only to music.

The 90s will mark another stage in Dédé Saint-Prix's career with his first educational actions.

He then led Afro-Caribbean percussion master classes for the Festival Musiques Métisses d'Angoulême.

After several albums to his credit, Dédé Saint Prix returns to us with

Koktel Chouval Bwa

which is the culmination of a common project (with

Ludovic Anicette,

ex-guitarist of

the Dodo Twoubadou Brothers

of Haiti).

This collaboration gave birth to the "chouval bwa-twoubadou" style.

Themes such as the general interest, self-sufficiency, reparation, tradition, nature, hope, love, tolerance, the strength of thought and of speech and recognition are approached on arrangements copper and swaying at will.

Flute des Mornes, tanbou, bongos, tanbou dibas, banjo, congas, chacha, siyak, tibwa, violin, accordion, trombone, sax, lavwa dèyè, guitar, bass, piano are the ingredients of this Koktel Chouval Bwa.
