The Emirates Literature Foundation and the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai have extended the deadline for nominations for the School Librarian Award, which aims to honor librarians who have made an exceptional impact in promoting reading in their schools, until next March 14, and the winners will be announced and the awards will be delivered next June.

Isabel Abu Alhoul, CEO and member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Literature Foundation, explained that "the extension decision comes within the framework of efforts to reduce the difficulties imposed by the Corona crisis, as we have taken this decision to contribute to reducing the difficulties that librarians work under as a result of these current circumstances." .

She added, “We know that some school libraries have been closed temporarily or children’s access to it have been restricted, and although librarians provide great services, perhaps through other roles in schools, they will always fulfill their primary role, which exceeds all expectations, which is represented in Encouraging reading, and instilling love in young children.

The CEO and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Literature Foundation considered that “their role tomorrow is more important than ever. Our children are in dire need of books and reading that help them understand themselves and the world around them, and provide them with entertainment and education.

I know that many librarians will make heroic efforts to overcome the challenges we are going through, and this is really a pleasure. ”

"The extension of the nomination deadline will encourage librarians who play an exceptional role in their schools and make the desired change, and they must be honored and highlighted for their efforts," she added.

The award includes the categories of public schools and private schools in the UAE, and the finalists will be evaluated by a panel of judges.

It is noteworthy that this year more than 120 nominees for the award were submitted from all over the Emirates, which is the largest number of entries ever received.

Principals, students, administrators, parents, and any person involved in school libraries can nominate librarians, and the award accepts self-nominations.
