In order to further expand the wild population of elk, China successfully released 25 adult elk to nature on November 6.

For more than 30 years, the protection of elk has been strengthened by strengthening habitat construction, carrying out population reconstruction and scientific research. The current elk population has exceeded 8,000.

The elk is native to the warm and humid regions of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China. It is a national first-class protected animal. It has horns like deer, head and face like horses, hooves like cows, and tail like donkeys.

At present, China has established three protected populations in Nanhaizi in Beijing, Dafeng in Jiangsu, and Shishou in Hubei. The elk population in the Dafeng Elk National Nature Reserve in Jiangsu alone has grown from 39 in 1986 to 5,681, including wild elk. The population number is 1,820, basically achieving the goal of restoring wild elk populations.

Since 1993, China has successively carried out many batches of elk reintroduction activities.

The release will be implemented in the Dafeng Elk National Nature Reserve in Jiangsu. It will monitor the trajectory of the population in the wild in real time by wearing GPS collars to the released elk, and realize the grid management of elk protection.
