In October earlier this year, the government decided on additional crisis support in the culture and sports sector of 1.5 billion.

Minister of Culture and Sports Amanda Lind (MP) issued guidelines on how the crisis package should be distributed, where SEK 881 million will be distributed by the Swedish Arts Council.

The money will go to a new support that is aimed at special needs in cultural life and is divided into two parts.

"Shows an enormous need"

On the one hand, support for loss of income for canceled and postponed cultural events within the period 1 June to 30 September this year, where the call was closed last week.

But also an increased operating grant of SEK 444 million, to be able to find ways to restructure their operations and survive the pandemic.

Actors who work with sound, lighting and bookings have also been able to apply.

- What can be said in general is that the amount applied for for both the fall in revenue and for the support that closed last night shows an enormous need in the cultural sector, says CEO Kajsa Ravin.

Decisions will come this Christmas

In total, the Swedish Arts Council has received just over 4,400 applications for a total of SEK 3.3 billion.

The grant will be paid out before the turn of the year.

- We work hard now and go into the preparation process of all applications and we will make decisions before Christmas.
