The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) rejected a new appeal by Munir El Haddadi and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) against the international (FIFA) and Spanish (REFE) federations on November 6, 2020. The CAS again confirmed the fact that the Sevilla FC striker, very ephemeral representative of the Spain team, could not play for Morocco.

Munir El Haddadi, who plays for the Morocco team, is always "no"!

Why ?

Well, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has not justified its decision, rendered on November 6, 2020, but will do so later.

The fault of very short deadlines.

The Sevilla FC striker and the Royal Moroccan Federation (FRMF) have indeed asked CAS to rule very quickly.

The FRMF thus hoped to be able to field the 25-year-old player against the Central African Republic, on November 13 and 17, 2020,

in qualifying for the 2021 African Cup of Nations

.

The Lausanne-based body has therefore once again agreed with the International Federation (FIFA) and the Spanish Federation (REFE), in this standoff that has lasted for more than two years.

“

The appeal was filed following the decision of the FIFA Players Status Committee on September 23, 2020 not to authorize Munir El Haddadi to change national federation, namely to leave the Spanish federation to join the federation Moroccan

, recalls the CAS in a press release.

The appeal was rejected by the CAS and the decision rendered by FIFA was confirmed

 ”.

In 2018, the CAS had already said "

no

"

For Munir El Haddadi, who wore the Spain jersey only once, for fifteen minutes

in an official match in 2014

, it is a big disappointment.

For the FRMF and its president Fouzi Lekjaa, it is above all a snub.

In 2018, they had already failed to integrate the native of Madrid into the Atlas Lions squad for the World Cup in Russia.

This first decision of the CAS

was then understandable, since any player having played an official match with an A selection became de facto ineligible with any other country.

But, in September 2020, the boss of Moroccan football had passed

a law in FIFA tailored

to allow El Haddadi to represent the country of origin of his father.

Despite this reform, FIFA and CAS have - which seems more surprising this time - once again said "no".

Too much for the player and Morocco?
