Interview. Johnny Depp: "I am not up to the standards of the artists I admire"
Actor
Johnny Depp
announced this Friday that he has complied with Warner Bros' decision to withdraw him from the cast of the third installment of the "Fantastic Animals" franchise, after having lost a
trial
this week
against the British tabloid
"The Sun", which accused of mistreating his ex-wife Amber Heard.
"I let you know that Warner Bros has asked me to
resign from my role as Grindelwald
in
Fantastic Beasts
, and that I have respected and accepted that request," the Hollywood star said in a statement on Instagram.
The study has confirmed to the media the withdrawal of the actor from the next film in the saga derived from
the Harry Potter universe
, whose premiere is expected in 2022.
The actor had participated in the first two installments:
Fantastic Animals and Where to Find Them
(2016) and
Fantastic Animals: The Crimes of Grindelwald
(2018).
The London High Court ruled on Monday that
Depp's
account of the
alleged assaults
published in 2018 is "substantially true," a conclusion that the actor has said he intends to appeal.
Depp, 57, filed a lawsuit against News Group Newspaper (NGN), owner of "The Sun" and its CEO, Dan Wootton, on the grounds that the article is defamatory.
"The
surreal judgment
of the British court will not change my fight to tell the truth", declared this Friday the protagonist of films such as
Eduardo Scissorhands
(1990) and
Pirates of the Caribbean
(2003).
"
My determination remains strong
and I intend to prove that the accusations against me are false. My life and my career will not be defined by this moment in time," added Depp, a three-time Oscar nominee.
