  • Despite the confinement, the prefect of Pas-de-Calais authorized conditional hunting.

  • It is about "regulating" the species likely to cause damage on farms.

  • In all, there are about ten species that hunters can shoot.

No respite for the "pests".

France will enter its second week of confinement to try to come to the end of the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic.

Bars and restaurants are closed, travel is supervised and leisure activities outside of one's home are prohibited.

Nevertheless, in Pas-de-Calais, hunters can still practice their hobby with the blessing of the prefect of the department to "regulate" harmful species or big game.

Barely two days after the entry into force of the confinement, the Secretary of State in charge of biodiversity, Bérangère Abba, assured that hunters could continue to shoot certain species to "avoid an increase in damage to crops and forests. and to property through a proliferation of large game populations such as wild boar or deer.

This is what we call "regulation".

Ten species to hunt alone or in groups

Seeing a door open, the Coordination Rurale (CR) of Hauts-de-France, a farmers' union had, in the process, contacted the prefects of the departments of the region to ask them "to set up a derogation allowing hunters to ensure this activity while respecting health measures ”.

But for Denis Patrelle president of the Rural Coordination of Oise, it is not necessary to limit oneself to roe deer and wild boar: "The damage of hares, crows and wood pigeons can be significant on crops, especially in areas where the population is important, ”he says.

We must believe that the voice of farmers, supported by that of the boss of hunters, Willy Schraen, reached the ears of the prefect of Pas-de-Calais, Louis Lefranc.

Thursday, the representative of the State issued a decree setting the rules for the implementation of "regulatory hunts during a period of sanitary confinement".

As a result, it is not two, but ten species that hunters can hunt: wild boar, roe deer, fallow deer, Sika deer, wood pigeon, red fox, rook, black crow, black-billed magpie and the muskrat.

So, of course, not everything will be allowed.

Hunters must respect physical distancing and request authorization to organize an individual or collective hunt.

In fact, no hunting with hounds will be authorized and the number of animals collected will be controlled.

The prefect also specifies that “welcome drinks and collective meals are prohibited”.
