  • The pupils of 1st and Terminale have a very busy schedule of bac exams, which starts in January for the first and in March for the second.

  • But given the delay they took at school due to the first confinement and the start of the school year complicated because of the Covid-19, the unions are calling for accommodations.

  • According to our information, the Minister of Education will make announcements on the subject in the coming days.

Examinations yes, but in what form?

This year, 1st year high school students have a busy schedule: they have to take the common bac exams (EC) between January and February (history, geography and languages for general subjects *), and between April and May, another series of EC (history-geography, languages and scientific education for general subjects *), as well as a test on specialized education which they will abandon at the end of 1st.

Without forgetting the oral and written form of the anticipated French test in June.

As for the final year students, they will start in March with the specialty exams, followed between April and June by EC (history-geography, languages and scientific education for general subjects *) and end of June / beginning of July of written test of philosophy and the grand oral.

"We must not put them under further pressure"

A very dense schedule which the Ministry of Education discussed with the unions this Wednesday, during the monitoring committee of the reform of the bac.

And for the latter, the current health situation makes it impossible to hold such a program.

“The teachers were able to measure the effects of confinement on their 1st and 12th grade students.

Since the start of the school year, they have been trying to make up for the accumulated academic delay and the holding of the first EC exams in January for 1st year students is far too early.

It puts the students in a situation of intense stress.

Ditto for the students of Terminale: it is difficult to see how they will be ready to take their specialties exams in March ”, estimates the Deputy Secretary General of SNES-FSU, Sophie Vénétitay.

“Some teachers are only just beginning to discuss the program with their students.

They should not be put under further pressure.

Moreover, if ever the high schools soon set up classes in half-groups to avoid too much mixing of the students, the calendar of the tests as it exists now will be untenable, ”says Claire Krepper, deputy general secretary of the union of teachers SE-Unsa.

The Minister will make announcements soon

If the teachers' unions are unanimous on the need to reorganize the schedule of the tests, their proposals differ however on the

motus operandi

.

“For 1st year students, we would like to postpone the ECs from the first to the second semester.

We are also calling for a reduction in the programs for the French, philosophy and specialty courses, ”explains Sophie Vénétitay.

For its part, the SE-UNSA calls for “the outright abolition of the first EC exams for 1st year students, and if possible also those at the end of 1st and those of Terminale.

By replacing them with continuous assessment notes.

This is to free up students' time.

Otherwise they will still be in evaluation.

We also ask that the specialty exams of the final year students be postponed from March to June and that the programs be readapted, ”says Claire Krepper.

Proposals that the Ministry of Education is seriously considering.

According to the entourage of Jean-Michel Blanquer, interviewed by

20 Minute

s, the minister will make announcements in the coming days on the subject.
