On November 5th, Capital Normal University issued an obituary. Mr. Ouyang Zhongshi, a famous scholar, educator, calligrapher, Peking Opera artist, Professor of the Institute of Chinese Calligraphy and Culture of Capital Normal University, and Honorary Dean, was invalidated due to illness. Beijing passed away at the age of 93.

The farewell ceremony is scheduled to be held at the auditorium of the Babaoshan Funeral Home at 9 am on November 11.

Ouyang Zhongshi has made considerable achievements in various fields and achieved certain accomplishments in calligraphy. In 2002, he won the highest award in the calligraphy industry, and the only special contribution award to calligraphy education in the first Chinese Calligraphy Falan Pavilion Award. Calligraphy and painter Qi Gong commented on him: "There has been no such achievement in 300 years. It's a big deal, no second since Dong Qichang."

He is also a Peking opera fancier, and he was taught by Mr. Xi Xiaobo, the founder of the "Xi Pai", and has accumulated a set of "singing" rules with his life's hard work... However, Ouyang Zhongshi used "no big ambitions, change of thinking, not doing business, homeless"16 Evaluate your life in one word.

A reporter from the Beijing News interviewed Ouyang Zhongshi’s Xipai disciple and Zhang Jianfeng of the Beijing Peking Opera Theatre, recalling the past of his teacher Ouyang Zhongshi.

Calligraphy education emphasizes "ethics"

On October 12, 2005, China's manned spacecraft Shenzhou VI successfully launched.

On this day, there are seven calligraphy works that traveled in space with Shenzhou VI. One of them reads: "Flying in the sky and surrounding the sky, exploring the Tongxuan in your grasp." The author of this calligraphy is calligraphy. Mr. Ouyang Zhongshi, an educator.

Ouyang Zhongshi is good at a variety of calligraphy styles, among which the running script is the most. His calligraphy is taught by Wu Yuru, and the famous calligraphy masters Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi, and Wang Xun are the sects. His running script works use round turns instead of square folds. Strokes replace complicated stippling, and use hooking, picking, and drawing silk to strengthen the echo of stippling. It shows strength in the warm and solemn, and it is free and easy in the beauty and ups.

In 1981, Ouyang Zhongshi was transferred to the Education Department of Beijing Normal University (now Capital Normal University) and embarked on the road of calligraphy education.

Under his leadership, in 1993, the Institute of Calligraphy of Capital Normal University established the first doctoral program of Chinese calligraphy. He is an important pioneer in the construction of contemporary calligraphy.

In addition to teaching students the professional calligraphy knowledge of font structure and writing style, Ouyang Zhongshi also pays special attention to the cultivation of students' cultural accomplishment.

When giving lessons to students, he often used a metaphor, posing a balance posture, with “de” on one end and “learning” on the other. He warned students that if the “ethics” is high, the mentality of learning will naturally become Shen can go in.

"Without the quality of traditional culture, it is difficult to become an excellent calligrapher." Ouyang Zhongshi once said before his death that calligraphy is a trail and must have the foundation of traditional culture to create good calligraphy.

As a master of calligraphy, it is inevitable that he would write inscriptions on various occasions. During his lifetime, Ouyang Zhongshi's inscriptions would be considered from the cultural background, such as writing to a house. This house has a characteristic. There are lotus and bamboo, so he closely follows the theme of lotus and bamboo. The characteristic of lotus is that it is not dyed, and the characteristic of bamboo is that it has knots, so it is written "not dyeing knots high".

Zhang Jianfeng, a disciple of the Xi school of Ouyang Zhongshi, also wanted to learn calligraphy. Master did not teach him immediately, but asked him to learn more about culture and read more books. The real writing started years later.

Deep friendship with Xi Xiaobo and apprentices

At the age of 9, Ouyang Zhongshi became interested in Peking Opera, and especially liked to imitate the singing of Peking Opera master Xi Xiaobo.

When he was in high school in Jinan, because his classmate’s elder brother was a theater manager, Ouyang Zhongshi often took advantage of this convenience to go to the theater and listen to plays.

One day, Ouyang Zhongshi visited a fancier’s house and casually sang Xi Xiaobo’s famous Peking opera "The City of Baidi". A person came out and asked Ouyang Zhongshi “who learned it from?” Ouyang Zhongshi said, “learned from records” , And then sang a section of "Zhu Lian Zhai" by Xi Xiaobo.

The other party said, "You can learn from me".

At that time, Ouyang Zhongshi didn't know who this person was. He knew only after being prompted by others that the other party was Xi Xiaobo, and he immediately knelt down to apprehend his teacher.

Although Ouyang Zhongshi did not hold the ceremony of apprenticeship as usual, the friendship between the two of them has been strong for many years.

Under the meticulous teaching of Xi Xiaobo, Ouyang Zhongshi has a deep understanding of Xi Pai art.

In 1957, Xi Xiaobo rehearsed the Peking Opera "Fan Jinzhong Ju", which was well received.

A few years later, Ouyang Zhongshi was commissioned by his teacher to rewrite two passages in order to polish the play into a masterpiece.

As a direct disciple of Xi Xiaobo, Ouyang Zhongshi has assisted Mr. Xi Xiaobo for a long time, and has made important contributions to the improvement of "Xi School" art.

At the same time, he also regarded Peking opera as a subject, and he has made a lot of achievements in the historical origin, phonology, artistic characteristics and performance practice of all Peking opera.

His opinions are published in various newspapers and anthologies.

There is also a story about the friendship between the master and the apprentice.

Xi Xiaobo is very generous to his friends. He often rushes to pay for meals with others. Although he makes a lot of money, he can't resist the lavish expenditure and is often ashamed.

Ouyang Zhongshi thought of a way and wrote to Master saying that someone in the family was sick and asked Master for help for 10 yuan a month.

Without thinking about it, Xi Xiaobo sent money to his disciple's home every month.

When Master has no more money next time, Ouyang Zhongshi will return the hundreds of dollars previously sent by Master.

Recalling the teacher: to acquire his literary popularity, humility is wealth

Oral: Zhang Jianfeng (a disciple of Ouyang Zhongshi's Xi school)

The last time I saw Master was before the start of the new crown pneumonia epidemic. He had been in a bedridden state due to a cerebral hemorrhage, and his consciousness was not clear. His family helped him exercise.

Before we went to see him, chat with him, and sometimes can look at us, we are already very satisfied.

Shi Niang just passed away at the end of October this year, almost a week apart.

Although the master has been in a coma for a long time, I think he is really worried about her.

The old couple are very affectionate and respect each other. After hearing the news of Master’s departure today, I felt that Master couldn’t let go of her.

I officially became a teacher of Mr. Ouyang Zhongshi in 2000.

We have a custom in the Liyuan community, and we need witnesses to apprentice.

At that time, it happened to be an event to commemorate the master of Peking opera, Mr. Xi Xiaobo. In a large conference hall, famous Peking opera artists from all over the country, such as Mr. Mei Baojiu, Mr. Tan Yuanshou, and Mr. Liu Xuetao, were all present. Taking advantage of this opportunity, my uncle Xi Yanhong (son of Xi Xiaobo) ) I was very lucky to organize this apprenticeship ceremony.

But in fact, I learned drama from my husband in 1999, and it has been 20 years now.

Master always tells me that to learn from his bookishness, this is how old students on stage are.

For example, his usual walking posture, how to communicate with others, this daily life state has a kind of literary temperament, and I can learn it and bring it to the stage.

The nurturing of these 20 years is a wealth that cannot be described in words.

Master is considered a strict teacher. When I saw me, he basically didn't praise him, he was very strict, but he often praised me in front of his wife, and I didn't know this.

He once saw a play of mine on TV and he always watched TV and lost his mahjong game with his master.

After following Master for the past 20 years, I have seen Master contact all kinds of people, and I have also learned his humble attitude towards others.

He has a high level of cultivation and is modest in everything. This is the greatest wealth I have learned. He is the real husband.
