His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, launched the first volumes of the "Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language", the largest knowledge project for the nation, which chronicles for the first time the history of the vocabulary of the Dhad language and the changes in its use over 17 centuries (since pre-Islamic era To our times).

His Highness added, “Here we are, today, on this honorable and joyful occasion, the issuance of the first eight parts of the historical dictionary in its beautiful dress, and its wonderful output, we place it in the hands of the nation and between the hands of intellectuals and lovers of the Arabic language, they come to me from the connotations of historical words and their words. His Highness continued: “This is a day of great joy and overwhelming happiness, and I have been waiting for this day for more than two decades, and God Almighty wanted this project to see the light on your hands in Sharjah, which I consider to God as the bearer of Arab culture and as the capital of the Arab language. To make it a home for language, literature, theater, novels and all literary genres, and a place to which people of literature, lovers of culture, and lovers of knowledge seek refuge.

10 Arab academies participated in the completion of the dictionary, which is supervised by the Union of Linguistic and Scientific Academies in Cairo, and the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah manages its executive committee, and the dictionary is based for its completion on a database that was collected and automated, and methodologies and systems for reference to it were developed during the past three years, to include Today, about 20 thousand books, sources and historical documents in Arabic, including inscriptions and monuments dating back to the third century before Islam.
