Gérald Darmanin announced on Wednesday on Twitter the dissolution of the ultra-nationalist Turkish group Les Loups Gris.

The announcement comes amid strong diplomatic tensions between France and Turkey over the treatment of Muslims in France.

This ultranationalist group, whose rallying sign is a thumb attached to the middle and ring fingers, is known to be close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who recently questioned the “mental health” of Emmanuel Macron.

The small group of Gray Wolves has been singled out in particular after incidents that opposed Turkish and Armenian communities last week in Décines-Charpieu, near Lyon.

On Wednesday evening, security forces intervened in this city, a high place of the Armenian diaspora, to prevent 250 members of the Turkish community - finally fined for non-compliance with the curfew - to "do battle" with the Armenians.

The same day, in the morning, a brawl had opposed these two communities on the A7 motorway, at the Vienna toll, leaving four injured, including one serious.

An inscription "Gray Wolves" was also tagged on the genocide memorial and the Armenian National Center of Remembrance near Lyon, desecrated during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
