The General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Control published, Monday, November 2, the conclusions of an investigation carried out in 2019 on hot water bottles and heaters sold in France.

More than 100 establishments (155 exactly) were checked and 12% of them checked were in an anomaly, reports

"Of the 19 samples taken and analyzed, sixteen were found to be non-compliant (84%), including five dangerous (26%)", indicates the DGCCRF.

Faced with these results, the investigators sent warnings and injunctions to the professionals concerned and, in the most critical cases, the products were withdrawn from the market.

Five dangerous hot water bottles

Hot water bottles exist today in different forms.

Numerous incidents have been reported as a result of burns.

The DGCCRF therefore took an interest in microwave hot water bottles made from natural products, gel or pearls, PVC or rubber hot water bottles intended to be filled with water, and electric hot water bottles and gasoline heaters.

The investigation made it possible to identify deficiencies in consumer information but also brought to light false therapeutic claims or unfounded indications of origin.

The analyzes also revealed the dangerousness of certain hot water bottles.

Four PVC or rubber hot water bottles were recognized as dangerous by the DGCCRF;

two references have been withdrawn from sale the investigation is continuing for the other two.

An electric hot water bottle was also considered dangerous because it presented the risk of electric shock.
