"I would never have thought of working as a bakery caterer one day," Kenzy Baba Abdi confides with a smile.

Since September, this 18-year-old Lyonnais has landed two jobs in just a few clicks on the Internet.

Like hundreds of other students or young job seekers, he was directed towards these missions in mass distribution and then in a caterer as part of “Relance avec les jeunes”.

A new system of integration through employment created in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes by the Lyon start-up JobyPepper, a platform for short-term paid missions, the CPME 69, Habitat & Humanisme Rhône, Sport dans la ville and the local mission of Lyon.

This initiative was born during the confinement at the initiative of the co-founders of JobyPepper, confronted from the start of the health crisis, with an increase in the registrations of young people on their mobile application.

“We had a lot of new registrants in the spring.

Many lost their internships, their summer jobs or student jobs, on which they relied to pay their rent.

They found themselves without income.

We could not leave them without a solution, ”says William Vacher, one of the founders of the start-up, which has 20,000 young people registered on its platform in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

Fixed-term contract, interim or self-employment

The “Relaunch with young people” system (Raj), involving major players in employment and integration, soon established itself in the minds of the two entrepreneurs.

Because faced with the needs of young people, the first victims of the economic crisis, they also observe the reluctance of companies to recruit due to the lack of visibility in the months to come.

“In the current context, they need flexibility in their recruitment to meet a one-off need for labor,” he continues.

A trend which should strengthen by the end of the year despite the establishment of the second confinement.

In the coming weeks, certain sectors such as large-scale distribution, logistics, e-commerce and delivery services will indeed need people to meet the higher demand in stores and the more numerous orders.

Then, at the time of deconfinement, closed establishments, like restaurants and bars, are likely to be new job providers.

“In September, this sector made very good numbers.

The establishments then had a real need for tailor-made recruitment, ”observes William Vacher.

The Raj tool, which makes it possible to benefit from the services of JobyPepper, offers these companies which cannot make a long-term commitment, the possibility of hiring quickly and on demand.

And this, by offering missions of a few hours to several weeks, in CDD, interim or in self-entrepreneurship.

A "good plan" for young people

For Kenzy, everything happened in a few days, after an information meeting organized by the association Sport dans la ville.

"I went there to pass the time," confesses the young man.

And then, hearing about this device, I went to the app, I applied and I quickly found a first assignment lasting a few days, then a second with a caterer to prepare sandwiches.

“The speed of the process and the diversity of the offers on offer appeal to the boy.

“For me, it's a really good plan because I have a year of gap year ahead of me.

This allows me to work and enrich my CV, ”adds Kenzy, who had to postpone his BTS for one year for lack of being able to find a work-study company.

Beyond these short assignments, the objective of the system is to guide registered young people towards more stable jobs on CDD or CDI.

After a few days spent at the caterer, Kenzy, for example, was offered a two-month fixed-term contract for the end of the year.

If in the coming weeks, interest in Raj is confirmed in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, the tool could easily be extended to other regions, with the involvement of local players in employment and integration.
