In August, artist Tim Bendzko performed for 1,500 corona-free people at the Arena Leipzig, as part of a German audience experiment.

The participants had to wear face masks and track equipment while researchers from the University of Halle investigated how long and how often they were close to each other, and how the air in the room moved.

The results show that as long as the ventilation in the room is good and the audience follows the prevailing hygiene and safety rules, the risk of corona spread is very small, reports NME.

Fresh air and distance

"There are no arguments for not performing such a concert.

The risk of becoming infected is very small ", said researcher Michael Gekle in an interview.

Physical distance between the participants and good ventilation were stated as the most important thing to keep the risk of infection down.

The critical moments were mainly the audience's arrival at the arena, breaks and food and beverage sales.

None of the participants became ill after the experiment.
