In defiance of the difficult, and using the highest precautionary standards, in order to continue its enlightening journey, the Sharjah International Book Fair launched yesterday morning the activities of its 39th session at the Sharjah Expo Center, under the slogan "The World Reads From Sharjah"

The exhibition, in its special session, attracted 1,024 Arab and foreign publishers displaying more than a million books, summarizing the cultures and innovations of more than 73 Arab and foreign countries on the land of Sharjah, until November 14.

The exhibition is betting on supporting publishers and the book industry in the world, and consolidating the message of recovery and return to organizing the largest book fairs in the world.

The exhibition also celebrates the experiences and projects of 60 writers, writers and thinkers, through a series of sessions held for the first time in the history of the exhibition "remotely", through the "Sharjah Read" platform, which was launched to host all cultural events organized by the Sharjah Book Authority from a distance.

For his part, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, affirmed that “the option to organize the 39th session of the Sharjah International Book Fair for this year reflects the position of knowledge, science and human production in the emirate’s march towards comprehensive and equitable development, under the guidance and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, as His Highness affirms that a person who is able to know and who is familiar with the experiences of others and their intellectual production constitutes the essence of development, its maker and its goal.

He added, “The volume of publishers’ participation from different countries of the world confirms an important fact, which is that knowledge was and still is the window of nations towards light, freedom and progress, and that the book, with what it represents as a symbol of civilization, will continue to attract the audience around it, bypassing the boundaries of geography and language or those created by emergency circumstances. And it will remain an indisputable tool for building societies that are superior in morals and creativity ”.

Al-Amiri added: “In the pre-exhibition stage, we had many options, so we chose the one that triumphs for life, awareness and human will. Organizing the exhibition with its exceptional mechanism indicates the ability of societies to invent new forms to practice their lives and celebrate their various achievements, especially the cultural and cognitive achievements that represent In itself, it is a tool for overcoming crises, and it is a choice that constitutes a model for exhibitions and events, both inside and outside the country.

Al-Amiri pointed out that “the exhibition strengthened its position and presence throughout its journey, becoming part of the collective memory of the public inside the country or coming from the Arab world and the world, and a place for meeting and social interaction and getting to know the customs and cultures of different peoples, this place of the exhibition made it an annual event that intellectuals and lovers of knowledge await. Families spend fruitful times with their children. Writers, poets and publishers are eagerly waiting for him, and this is the biggest achievement the exhibition has achieved, and we will continue to strive to promote it every year.

And he noted that “the Sharjah Book Authority, in cooperation with the concerned authorities in the emirate, has taken all necessary preventive measures and the highest standards, but the main bet remains on the awareness of the audience of the Sharjah International Book Fair, with which we have gathered a long experience during which it demonstrated its high commitment to social responsibility, and its keenness on the success of events. Precautionary measures

With the highest standards of precautionary and preventive measures that are consistent with the efforts of the UAE to limit the spread of the Corona virus, the exhibition activities proceed, and visitors flock with face masks and in accordance with the guidelines circulated by the exhibition management, as the Sharjah Book Authority provided thermal scanners at the entrance to the exhibition, and it will also sterilize the halls on a daily basis The lobbies and corridors of the exhibition for five hours, and in the interest of the safety of publishers, a series of special procedures have been put in place that achieve the necessary levels of physical distancing and ensure that there is no direct contact.

Visitors to the 39th session of the exhibition will have an appointment with a group of Arab and foreign writers, writers and thinkers, including Wassini Al-Araj, Ahmed Murad, Dr. Mohsen Al-Ramli, director and author Lina Khoury, and writer Mishaal Hamad.

In a step indicating the exhibition’s interest in the culture of new generations, the Sharjah Book Authority cooperated with the Ministry of Education to hold special sessions for students, providing them with an opportunity to meet writers, thinkers and creators through visual communication programs.
