The Association of Mayors of France (AMF) announced Monday the cancellation of its 103rd congress due to the health crisis.

The event was scheduled to take place November 23-26 in Paris.

"This cancellation comes at a time of particular importance when the mayors are starting a new mandate, wondering about the financial means of their action, about the creeping recentralization and about the increasingly strong expectations of the population towards them", recalled in a press release the AMF, which will speak on these issues "in the week when the congress should have been held".

The association also stresses that such postponements had only occurred during the two world wars.

With this cancellation, the 103rd Congress of Mayors of France will therefore be held in November 2021. "But the AMF reserves the right to organize it earlier if the circumstances so require," said a source from the association.

Due to the health crisis, the Assembly of French Departments (AdF) has also postponed its congress scheduled for this week in La Rochelle.
