In the aftermath of the terrorist attack which killed four people in Vienna, Austria, Emmanuel Macron went to the Austrian embassy in Paris on Tuesday to bring “his unconditional support to the Austrian people”.

The Head of State called for a European response against "enemies who attack what Europe is".

"We will do everything, as Europeans, to stand together, fight this scourge of terrorism and, together, move forward without giving up any of our values", he declared, after signing the register of condolences.

This attack, committed in particular by "a sympathizer" of Daesh according to Vienna and which follows three jihadist attacks in France for a month, has been condemned by all European leaders and the French political class.

"We will not give up"

"Vienna represents the very incarnation of our values, this attack also says the will of our enemies to attack what Europe is, this land of freedom, culture, values and therefore we will not give up anything" , continued the French president.

Europe is in mourning.

One of our own has been hit hard by Islamist terrorism.

We think of the victims, their families, the shattered lives.

France stands alongside Austria, ready to lend its support.

Monday evening, just after the shooting which sowed terror in the Austrian capital, Emmanuel Macron tweeted: “Our enemies must know who they are dealing with.

We will not give up ”, before posting two new messages of solidarity on social networks on Tuesday.

A firmness that he had already expressed after the beheading of Professor Samuel Paty on October 16 for showing caricatures of Muhammad, when he had hammered: "They will not pass."

Evoking like the French president a European response, the head of the Italian diplomacy Luigi Di Maio proposed Tuesday a European “Patriot Act”, in the image of the American anti-terrorism law.
