Next year, 10 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear accident, Naraha Town, Fukushima Prefecture, will launch the Greek olive seeds that helped us in the event of a disaster.

The town has decided to grow olives that have traveled in space as a symbol of reconstruction, and on the 2nd, the mayor took over the olive seeds from the Greek ambassador in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo.

Naraha Town will be the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear accident next year, and next year, it will be a disaster area with a total of 42 local governments in the three Tohoku prefectures that are engaged in exchange projects with the countries and regions that supported the disaster area. We will deliver the souvenirs of the disaster to the space and tell the state of the reconstruction of the disaster area from the International Space Station.



On the 2nd, Mayor Yukihide Matsumoto of Naraha Town received olive seeds at the official residence of the Greek Ambassador in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo.



Ambassador Constantine Cacusis said, "Olive is a symbol of victory and peace at the Olympics. I want Naraha to be carefully raised to prove that it has overcome difficulties and adversity."

Olive seeds will be rocketed with other municipal souvenirs in May next year, and will return to the town after traveling in space for about a month and a half, and the town will grow olive seeds as a symbol of reconstruction. He also wants to plant seedlings in Greece to prove their exchange.



Mayor Matsumoto said, "I hope that the grown olives can be used for exchanges such as culture and people."
