One year after the Shurijo Castle fire "To prevent it from happening again" Training before dawn October 31st 11:37

On the 31st, one year after the fire at Shuri Castle in Okinawa, the Naha City Fire Department and others who responded to the fire conducted fire extinguishing training at Shuri Castle before dawn.

Approximately 70 people, including firefighters from the Naha City Fire Department and castle guards, participated in the training held at Shurijo Castle Park in Naha City from 5:30 am on the 31st.

The training was conducted on the assumption that a fire broke out from the Hirofuku Gate in the castle, and after the guard who discovered the fire called 119, water was discharged using a hose, and the initial fire extinguishing was promptly started.

And the firefighters used a special rear car to carry the hose and then discharge the water because Shuri Castle is located on a hill surrounded by the walls and the fire engine cannot be attached in the immediate vicinity.

In the fire at Shurijo Castle a year ago, it was pointed out that the lack of cooperation between the guards and the fire department and the lack of training assuming a fire at night led to a delay in the initial fire extinguishing. Strengthening cooperation between institutions is an issue.

Toshiyuki Shinshiro, chief of the Naha City Fire Department's Security Division, said, "I would like to carry out training with various assumptions in the future so as not to cause such a fire again."
