Actress Laurie Laughlin begins jail time over the US universities scandal

American actress Laurie Laughlin began, on Friday, a two-month prison sentence in California, after confessing to conspiring to commit fraud, as part of a widespread scandal related to the payment of bribes to the rich people to enter their children in prestigious American universities.

Laughlin - known especially for her role in the series "Full House" that was shown during the 1980s and 1990s - was transferred to an unguarded federal prison in Dublin, east San Francisco.

She and her designer husband, Musimo Giannoli, were among about 50 people charged in a fraudulent operation to secure places for their children at prestigious American universities.

Laughlin (56 years) will be subject to permanent surveillance for two years after her release.

It would also have to deliver 100 hours of utility work.

The actress and her husband plead guilty last May to fraudulent wire transfers.

The couple were accused of paying an intermediary $ 500,000 to secure their daughters' enrollment with the University of Southern California (USC).

Orchestrated by Operation Planner William Singer, the two daughters were presented as being on the university's rowing team, even though they were not practicing the activity.

Januli will be jailed for five months, pay a $ 250,000 fine and perform 250 hours of public spending.
