A 20-year-old student will be summoned to court for having published on a website a link to a photo of one of the three victims of the deadly knife attack perpetrated Thursday in Nice, we learned on Saturday from corroborating sources .

The young man "posted on the forum of the Jeuxvideo.com site a link to another site where the photo of the victim was located," said a source familiar with the matter.

The investigation could not establish whether he had posted the image on the original site, the source added.

Placed in police custody late Friday afternoon in the premises of the brigade for the repression of delinquency against the person (BRDP), he will be summoned at a later date before the delegate of the prosecutor, said the Paris prosecutor's office. .

The delegate of the prosecutor, who has a repressive and educational role, can pronounce an alternative to prosecution - for example a reminder of the law, a paid internship or a fine.

The Paris prosecutor's office had opened an investigation for "dissemination of a violent message".

Several diffusions of the image

The photo of the 60-year-old woman, who suffered a deep throat cut, close to beheading, was posted on social media and on several websites.

The Pharos platform, responsible for detecting illegal online content, has reported several broadcasts of this macabre image.

In addition to this woman, the assailant killed the sacristan of the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption basilica in Nice, Vincent Loquès, 55, and a 44-year-old Brazilian mother, Simone Barreto Silva.
