Mando continues to play cowboys and surrogate dads in 'The Mandalorian' Season 2 -

Disney +

With the advent of streaming platforms and

binge watching

, the big serial event has more or less disappeared, the last vestige of this ancient world being

Game of Thrones

.

But it is up to us to find each other and to commune each week in front of the episode of an event series.

And it could be

The Mandalorian

, the live

Star Wars series

, season 2 of which debuted this Friday on Disney +.

Here's our recap of the first episode, which picks up the adventures of Mando and Baby Yoda where Season 1 left off.

Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away ... After the fall of the Empire in

Return of the Jedi

, the Mandalorian, a bounty hunter à la Bobba Fett, accepts an unofficial contract to transport a secret object and precious: Baby Yoda.

He quickly rebels against his sponsors and decides to protect “The Child”, whose extraordinary abilities he gradually discovers.

As revealed to him by a Mandalorian armourer, he could belong to an ancient orde of wizards, the Jedi.

Mando's new mission is therefore to bring Baby Yoda back to his family.

[ATTENTION “THIS IS THE SPOILERS” ON EPISODE 1 OF SEASON 2]

"This is not a place for a child," launches a promoter of underground fighting in Mando in the first minutes of this start of season 2. "Wherever I go, he follows me," Mando replies.

The duo is therefore intact, and Mando is looking for other Mandalorians to help him in his quest for the likes of Baby Yoda ... the Jedi?

Our shady promoter (of course) knows a single Mandolarian, on Tatooine, but he is mostly interested in the Beskar armor, a rare material, that Mando wears.

Three slaps later and everyone KO, our masked hero is on his way to the planet Tatooine, and more precisely the ghost town of Mos Pelgo where a Mandalorian would live.

The new chapter begins.

Side missions

Riding on his flying motorcycle, Mando arrives like a cowboy, and

The Mandalorian

supports his western and

heritage

from the 1950s. The opportunity to whistle the unstoppable theme of Ludwig Göransson.

The Mandalorian he seeks turns out to be, once the mask has fallen (sacrilege), a simple quidam who plays the sheriffs and who is played by none other than Timothy Olyphant of the

.

Both an ease and a pleasure.

Real name Cobb Vanth, he's ready to return his Mandalorian armor from Jawas, if Mando helps him get rid of a sand dragon.

If the showrunneur, and writer-director of this first episode, Jon Favreau, had promised more soaping in season 2, the series takes for the moment the recipe of the first with a story / mission per episode, which made the both its charm and its limit.

With the help of the sand men, the Tuskens, Mando, Cobb and the villagers (but in fact especially Mando), succeed in getting rid of this sand monster straight out of

Dune

… or Sand Sharks.

And Mando goes back the other way.

Baby Yoda, where are you?

As you will not have read it, because it is conspicuous by its absence, Baby Yoda is just figuring in this episode.

Timothy Olyphant is a good palliative, and we hope to see him again in future episodes, like the Cara Dune played by Gina Carano in season 1. She will also be back, like Carl Weathers or Giancarlo Esposito.

This is Jon Favreau's intention, to explore other characters and intrigues beyond just Mando and Baby Yoda, in the spirit of a certain
