The Higher People's Court of Jiangxi Province (hereinafter referred to as "Jiangxi Higher Court") disclosed on the 30th that it decided to pay more than 4.96 million yuan to Zhang Yuhuan, the claimant.

On September 2 this year, Zhang Yuhuan, the claimant for compensation, filed an application for state compensation to the Jiangxi Higher People's Court, the organization responsible for compensation, on the grounds that he was not guilty in the retrial.
According to relevant laws and regulations, the Jiangxi Higher People's Court fully listened to the opinions of Zhang Yuhuan and his attorney, and negotiated with the claimant Zhang Yuhuan and his attorney. On October 12, the compensation method, compensation items and compensation were discussed. Agree on the amount and sign an agreement.
Compensation includes compensation for infringement of personal freedom and mental damage relief. Among them, the agreement on mental damage relief has taken into account the specific circumstances of Zhang Yuhuan’s restricted personal freedom and mental damage, and local average living standards.

In an interview with a reporter from Chinanews.com, Zhang Yuhuan’s attorney for the national compensation case, Cheng Guangxin, stated that three rounds of formal negotiations were conducted on the compensation results. Zhang Yuhuan himself accepted the results and would not conduct reconsideration.
In addition, Cheng Guangxin said that the compensation amount of 4.96 million yuan is the highest known state compensation amount.
On October 24, 1993, two boys from a village in Fenghuang Township, Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province disappeared.
The next day, the bodies of the two boys were found in a reservoir near the village.
After investigation, the police transferred Zhang Yuhuan as the suspect to the procuratorial organ for review and prosecution.
On November 28, 2001, Jiangxi High Court sentenced Zhang Yuhuan to death for intentional homicide, suspended for two years, and deprived of political rights for life.
After the judgment became legally effective, Zhang Yuhuan submitted a criminal complaint to the Jiangxi Higher Court on August 22, 2017.
On July 9, 2020, the Jiangxi Higher People's Court held a public hearing on the case.
On August 4, 2020, the Jiangxi Higher People's Court issued a public sentence on the retrial of the original trial defendant Zhang Yuhuan's intentional homicide.
