At the Montpellier University Hospital (Hérault), the second wave of the coronavirus is here, and the caregivers are already underwater: this Friday morning, 152 patients with Covid-19 are hospitalized, 39 of whom are placed in critical care.

“When we compare the curves of the two waves, we notice that we have exceeded, for five to six days, the level that the peak that we had reached at the end of March, indicates Thomas Le Ludec, the general manager of the 'hospital.

We were there even before the containment measures were decided.

The number of patients affected by the virus during the peak in March was thus exceeded by 10%.

A population of people similar to the month of March

The Montpellier hospital has triggered level 3 of its white plan in recent hours, will further increase the beds that can accommodate people affected by the coronavirus, and will intensify the deprogramming of non-emergency operations.

"We have found, for a few weeks, a patient population similar to that found in March," said Professor Pierre Fesler, head of the department of internal medicine at CHU Lapeyronie in Montpellier.

Elderly people, but also younger people, who present with comorbid situations.

Patrice Taourel, the president of the medical commission of the Montpellier University Hospital, assures us that “the public system is in great tension”.

“Over a long distance, it's going to be complicated,” he says.

I call on the population to respect health measures.

If we don't, we won't be successful.

This is the only way to avoid having to make painful choices.

In the private sector, too, patients are flocking.

In the clinics, the beds are almost all already full, and we are already thinking of opening more.

In one, there was only one patient with the virus on Sunday.

They are 14 this Friday.
