Thursday, in Without appointment, on Europe 1, the doctor Jimmy Mohamed answered the most frequent questions concerning the common cold.

The doctor recalls in particular that the transmission of viruses is favored in winter, when you stay indoors near your loved ones.

Runny nose, sore throat ... the symptoms of the common cold are well known but its causes are often less understood: virus, cold snap?

And should we treat ourselves or simply try to relieve the pain using grandmother's recipes?

Europe 1 covers the issue in

Sans rendez-vous

.

What are the symptoms ?

It is a runny nose, with or without fever and with or without sore throat.

You also have aches and pains.

But over time, we become immune to nasopharyngitis and we do less and less.

How do you catch it?

Contrary to what many people think, there is no such thing as a cold snap.

But the cold can promote certain infections.

At the level of the bronchi, you have eyelashes which are used to drain foreign bodies, such as viruses, bacteria.

Normally, these bronchial eyelashes are very smooth and supple, like those we have on the eyelid.

But with the cold, they become very stiff like a comb.

When a virus arrives, it is trapped in the infection-prone respiratory tract, and the body cannot get rid of it.

So the cold can promote infections.

And during winter, we are at home, indoors, close to each other, which promotes the transmission of viruses.

But the cold is not a problem as such, the common cold is a viral infection.

How to treat him?

It's not really treatable.

You can take a little paracetamol and wash your nose, especially in children, because it is a source of otitis or sinusitis in older children.

A treated cold is a week, an untreated cold ... it's a week too.

As for grandmother's remedies, such as honey, tea or lemon, they can be used to relieve pain.
