Coming into November, the Leonid meteor shower will fall into the night sky on November 17 as promised; on November 30, the penumbral lunar eclipse will land in the sky, and eclipse moonrises can be seen throughout our country.

In November, after sunset, Mars shines in the eastern sky, and bright Jupiter and Saturn are in the southwestern sky.

In the eastern sky, you can see the "autumn quadrilateral"-Pegasus rising higher and higher, and the "North Fall Gate" in the southern constellation is a lonely and shining star in the southern sky.

On November 17, the Leo meteor shower will usher in its maximum period.

According to Dr. Yumin Wang, member of the International Astronomical Union and Beijing Ancient Observatory, around 2000 is the peak of the 33-year cycle of the Leonid meteor shower. It is currently normal and can only be regarded as one of the annual small and medium meteor showers.

The event time of this meteor shower is generally between November 6th and November 30th. This year's maximum period is expected to occur on November 17th.

At about 23:00 late at night on the 17th, the radiant point (at the head of Leo) rises from the northeast and reaches the zenith before dawn at 5:00. You can observe the meteor shower in the early morning on the 17th and 18th.

The meteors of the Leo Meteor Shower are extremely fast, reaching 71 kilometers per second, with moderate brightness.

"In a place that is not affected by moonlight and in good conditions, you can see about 5 to 10 meteors in one hour." Wang Yumin reminded that it will be very cold after midnight, and observation should be done to keep warm.

If you are looking forward to seeing a more exciting meteor shower, wait for the Gemini meteor shower in December.

On November 19th, the monthly civil double star companion moon this year will come again.

Wang Yumin said that on November 19, when the double stars accompany the moon, the three seem to be closer together, which is very eye-catching.

You can watch it towards the southwest after sunset. A crescent moon hovers in the southwest low altitude. Jupiter of magnitude -2 is in the upper right corner of the moon, and Saturn of magnitude 0.6 is in the upper left corner of the moon, forming a "double star crescent" shape. Being a "smiley face".

"It's best to observe as soon as it gets dark, because they will soon be submerged in the horizon." Wang Yumin said.

A penumbral lunar eclipse will occur on November 30, and a lunar eclipse will be visible in our country.

The penumbra eclipse started at 15:30 Beijing time, the eclipse was severe at 17:43, and the penumbra eclipse ended at 19:56. The maximum penumbra eclipse was 0.855.

The whole process took 4 hours and 26 minutes, and only part of the process after moonrise can be seen in various parts of our country.

Wang Yumin introduced that a penumbra lunar eclipse is when the moon moves into the penumbra area of the earth, and part of the sun shining on the lunar surface is formed by the earth. "The naked eye is not easy to detect. Only when the eclipse is severe, the lunar surface can be observed close The center of the shadow is dim."
