Stardust takes place in 1971 and is about David Bowie before the big breakthrough, when the young artist traveled through the United States to try to break through.

But the film has already gained a bad reputation.

David Bowie's family has distanced themselves from the production and stopped the filmmakers from using any of Bowie's songs.

Even after the film's trailer was released, it has been sawn by critics and in the comments section.

"It looks like the clichés are stacked on top of each other," writes critic Ethan Anderton on the film blog Slashfilm.

He also addresses the lack of Bowie music and asks himself "what is the point of the film"?

"Will get a lot of shit"

The role of Bowie is played by the actor and musician Johnny Flynn who himself wrote the leitmotif for the film.

The song is called "Good Old Jane" and is meant to sound like an "early and forgotten Bowie song", says Flynn to NME.

But in an interview with The Guardian, he says that the approach to newly written music is probably not well received by everyone.

"We will probably get harsh criticism from Bowie fans," Johnny Flynn told The Guardian.

Stardust premieres in the US on November 25.
