[Commentary] In the picture, the person who is observing the growth of dragon fruit is called Su Xiuqing.

She has been dealing with dragon fruit for six years. From the first glimpse of the "outside man" to planting, what kind of transformation has she experienced during the period?

Recently, the reporter approached Su Xiuqing to understand the story behind her and dragon fruit.

[Commentary] Su Xiuqing chose to do agriculture at the beginning because of a friend in Taiwan who was engaged in the cultivation of dragon fruit seedlings.

After market research, she found that more than 95% of dragon fruit sold in China are Vietnamese brands, and the vacancy of domestic brands implies huge business opportunities.

In September 2014, Su Xiuqing, who smelled business opportunities, rented 200 acres of land in Long'an County, Nanning City, Guangxi, and began planting dragon fruit.

  [Concurrent] Su Xiuqing

At that time in 2014, the dragon fruit industry in Guangxi was just getting started, maybe it was not a start, because at that time, there is no dragon fruit base, and then everyone can say that the dragon fruit is not understood at all, because even the fire dragon I don't know what the fruit looks like.

[Explanation] At the beginning, Su Xiuqing, who had no technical skills, wanted to learn from Taiwan’s planting experience, but she soon discovered that “Taiwan’s experience” is not suitable for large-scale dragon fruit planting.

Therefore, Su Xiuqing's team began to develop rack-type planting.

  [Concurrent] Su Xiuqing

In fact, you have seen some (planted) dragon fruits (cement pillars) which are cylindrical. We were thinking about how to (improve) them.

(Because) there are many problems with the cylindrical shape, and it is easy to cause the dragon fruit to produce some pathogens, because it gathers together for a long time, (so) we developed a rack-type planting by ourselves, and after the research and development of the rack-type planting If it is, how high the height of the column is, then how do you make it (to grow up), and how to make it fixed here not easy to fall.

These all give us a lot of problems.

[Explanation] When the orchard began to build large-scale cement columns, Su Xiuqing encountered difficulties again.

  [Concurrent] Su Xiuqing

At the beginning, when the pillar was needed in a large area, there was no such pillar in our Nanning city. I wanted to go to the cement factory for processing, but the cement factory didn’t look down on our orders at all, because you are very trivial. If you do, he must make a model for you.

Then we went to talk to the boss, we need so many cement pillars, can you bring your team to me, (then) it will take more than a month (after) that we can officially make cement by ourselves in the base A production and processing of columns.

[Explanation] After the technical problem was solved, Su Xiuqing introduced industrial management concepts into agricultural production.

Imported fruit seedlings and lawn cloth from Taiwan, and imported water and fertilizer integrated system from Israel... She asked employees to fertilize dragon fruit with the same precision as feeding formula milk to infants.

In order to improve the yield and quality of dragon fruit, she boldly adopted an advanced lighting replenishment system to simulate sunlight waves at different periods of time to urge dragon fruit to flower, so that dragon fruit has a three-month fruit-bearing period each year.

[Explanation] Nowadays, the dragon fruit produced by Su Xiuqing's team has a yield of more than 6000 kg per mu, and the planting area of dragon fruit at the base has reached 5,500 mu. It has become the largest red-hearted dragon fruit planting base in Guangxi.

[Explanation] With the development of the dragon fruit base, it has also promoted the employment of poor households in the surrounding area.

In recent years, the dragon fruit base has assisted 10,116 poor households and 39,869 people through land rent, labor wages, and dividends.
