[Explanation] On October 23, the Qinghai Forestry and Grassland Bureau, the Sanjiangyuan National Park Administration, and the Qilian Mountain National Park Qinghai Provincial Administration jointly launched the initiative to establish the "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Snow Leopard Conservation Alliance".

[Explanation] It is understood that among the 12 snow leopards in the world, China not only has 2000-2500 snow leopard populations, but also owns 60% of the snow leopard habitat, and is the most important snow leopard distribution country in the world.

According to existing scientific evidence, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the origin of snow leopard species, and it is also the most important and continuous living area of snow leopards.

The establishment of the Snow Leopard Conservation Alliance on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau can further strengthen domestic and international cooperation, jointly carry out snow leopard research and protection, and promote the formation of a multi-level, multi-field, comprehensive snow leopard protection situation and innovation pattern.

[Concurrent] Wang Enguang, Deputy Director of Qinghai Forestry and Grassland Bureau

We are the first to jointly carry out snow leopard research and protection in the six provinces of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and take a series of biodiversity conservation actions to protect the snow leopards. Through the snow leopard protection alliance of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, we will also cooperate with the world's snow leopard distribution countries in the future. Research on snow leopard protection.

[Explanation] As an important part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Qinghai has important snow leopard habitats such as the source of the Three Rivers and Qilian Mountains. In promoting the construction of a national park demonstration province, it has focused on strengthening the monitoring, investigation and systematic protection of rare species such as snow leopards, forming a benign interactive snow leopard The foundation of protection has achieved remarkable results.

[Concurrent] Zhang Yu, Deputy Director of the Qinghai Provincial Administration Office of Qilian Mountain National Park

At present, the number of snow leopards in Qinghai Province is about 1,200.

Since 2017, the Qinghai area of Qilian Mountain National Park has also strengthened the investigation and monitoring of snow leopards. According to relevant scientific research models, the habitat area of snow leopards in Qilian Mountain National Park is about 4,100 square kilometers. Currently, 55 snow leopards have been identified.

[Explanation] Wang Enguang, deputy director of Qinghai Forestry and Grassland Bureau, said that they have sent invitation letters to 40 units including forestry and grassland departments, relevant scientific research institutions, and non-governmental organizations in the provinces and autonomous regions where snow leopards are distributed, and have received 32 feedbacks. Expressed willingness to join the Snow Leopard Conservation Alliance.

The Snow Leopard Conservation Alliance on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau will focus on joint snow leopard research, conservation innovation, technical exchanges, and financing integration, and actively build bonds and bridges for multi-party cooperation. Through effective alliance mechanisms, they will give full play to their respective advantages, activate conservation potential, and create snow leopards. New model of protection.
