Still a little patience for the Brest residents who will have to wait until December to get back on board the cable car.

While it has been at a standstill since May, its resumption has indeed been postponed due to the discovery of a weakness in the structure of one of the boarding stations, Brest Métropole announced Thursday.

The cable car was stopped on May 28 after the detection of "deteriorated screws on the lines of the cabins", recalls the Brest metropolis.

At the request of Brest Métropole, the designer of the BMF Bartholet cable car carried out various technical interventions to resolve the malfunctions that had led to the suspension of the service.

“Recurring reliability” problems were also being addressed by the manufacturer, the Swiss group Bartholet Maschinenbau Flums (BMF).

Brest Métropole then asked the manufacturer to resolve the various mechanical problems encountered by the device.

“In parallel to the settlement of these mechanical operation issues, a non-conformity on the civil engineering of the Jean Moulin station (…), which could in theory deteriorate the structure in the long term, was also detected by Bouygues TP”, indicates The city.

Bouygues has recognized its responsibility

The "realization of inappropriate welding points on metal rods", would be at the origin of the problem, according to Brest metropolis, which says to have asked Bouygues to carry out, at its expense, the work of compliance.

The group, which has recognized its responsibility according to the metropolis, has planned the installation of a metal part at the level of the station in order to "definitively solve the problem", indicates the press release, which specifies that its installation should take place in January 2021 .

In the meantime, "Bouygues has planned to place sensors on the structure to allow the normal operation of the cable car to resume at the beginning of December, after approval by the State services".

Since its launch in November 2016, the Brest cable car, the first in France in an urban area, has experienced a series of incidents, including the fall of several meters from a cabin during a handling operation, without hurting.
