This Friday, Emmanuel Macron held a short press conference at the end of his meeting with the health staff of the Pontoise hospital in the Oise.

After paying tribute and thanking the entire sector, he called for the empowerment of everyone to "become one" with them "by respecting barrier gestures", "reducing unnecessary contact" and going for testing.

Regarding the curfew applied for a week in Ile-de-France, as well as in eight metropolises and decreed this weekend in 38 new departments and in French Polynesia, he explained that the first results could only be observed in the middle of next week.

He recalled that the measures imposed by the government were "not intended to be reduced", but "perhaps strengthened", either by expanding them geographically, or by "targeting the places where the epidemic is strongest" .

Reopen "when things get better"

Asked about a possible reconfinement, he said that it was "too early to say today whether we are heading towards local or wider reconfinements".

In order not to end on a too negative note, he began to evoke the strategy that the government will adopt "when things get better", that is to say "3000 to 4000 cases per day".

He then spoke of the possibility of "reopening" by stepping up testing for and isolation of those infected.
