China News Service, Hong Kong, October 21. The Hong Kong Cancer Statistics Center (Statistics Center) under the Hong Kong Hospital Authority announced on the 21st that in 2018, there were 34,028 new cancer cases in Hong Kong, a record high, with an average daily 93 people have been diagnosed with cancer.

Cancer is the number one killer in Hong Kong.

According to figures released by the Statistics Center, in 2018, 14,594 people died of cancer, accounting for 30.7% of all deaths in Hong Kong, and 58% of them were men.

The top three fatal cancers ranked in order are: lung cancer (26.4%), colorectal cancer (15.9%) and liver cancer (10.2%), which together account for more than half of all cancer deaths.

In 2018, the five most common cancers in Hong Kong were colorectal cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer and liver cancer, accounting for about 57% of new cancer cases in Hong Kong.

Among them, 5634 new cases of colorectal cancer were recorded, which was the “number one cancer” of the year.

Breast cancer is still the most important cancer in women.

In 2018, the number of new breast cancer cases in women continued to rise. In the past ten years, among the five common cancers in women, the number of new breast cancer cases increased the most, with an increase of 77%.

According to the Statistics Center, compared with ten years ago, the number of new cancer cases in 2018 increased by about 38%, an annual increase of 3.3%.

The overall increase in the number of cancers in Hong Kong is not only due to the increase in the number of elderly people and their proportion in the total population, but also due to changes in different cancer risks and improvements in diagnostic models.
