Since last Wednesday, the electricity supplied to 8,500 inhabitants of the Pink City is 100% made in Toulouse.

The Oncopole solar power plant, installed on the former AZF site, not far from the Oncopole, has just been commissioned.

Installed on 19 hectares along the Garonne, these 35,000 panels "will provide each year an electricity production of 19,500 megawatts / hour, or the equivalent consumption of 4,500 homes per year", indicates a spokesperson for Urbasolar, who built and operate the power plant, the first panel of which was installed a year ago.

To date, it is the largest in France in an urban area, cost 12.4 million euros and was financed by Toulouse Métropole, the Electricity Authority of the city of Toulouse, the Regional Energy Air Climate Agency. of the Occitanie and Urbasolar Region.

But also by individuals since 2% were invested via the Citoyen'R cooperative.

Land art

This power station, built on a former polluted site, is also symbolic by its aesthetic.

It was indeed the subject of a Land Art design under the leadership of the Toulouse visual artist, Damien Aspe.

Seen from the sky, when the users of the future cable car fly over it as well as the passengers of the planes, they will be able to see a pixelation thanks to the presence of colored panels inserted between the photovoltaic modules.
