"At present, China has become the second largest country in the world for organ transplantation. In this new crown pneumonia epidemic, the organ donation and transplantation work has been carried out efficiently and smoothly in China, and it has been highly praised by relevant experts in the international transplant community." October 11, "Relay of Life Pioneer" Team" entered the Xinhua College of Sun Yat-sen University. Huang Jiefu, the former Vice Minister of Health, Chairman of the China Human Organ Donation and Transplantation Committee, and Chairman of the China Organ Transplant Development Foundation, said at the meeting that since January 1, 2015, citizens will volunteer to donate Become the only legal source of organ transplantation in China.

In the year when the regulations were implemented, my country achieved 2,775 cases of organ donation behind citizens. Since then, the number of organ donations has increased by an average of 20% each year, reaching 6,302 cases in 2018.

Up to now, the China Organ Transplant Development Foundation has registered 1.45 million volunteers on the “giving and receiving” organ donation volunteer website.

"But compared to my country's 1.4 billion population, the concept of organ donation and education are far from enough." Huang Jiefu said, "Organ donation is the relay of life, the continuation of life under the sun, and we must let more people know."

Organ transplantation is an important medical method to save patients with end-stage organ failure.

In recent years, the number of Chinese citizens' voluntary organ donations has been increasing steadily every year, but at present, there are about 300,000 patients waiting for organ transplants in my country, and the number of organ transplants is only about 20,000 per year. The transplant gap is still very large.

"High cost, lack of transplant medical capacity, and insufficient organ donation sources are the three major bottlenecks facing the development of organ transplantation in my country." Huang Jiefu further explained, "First of all, the cost of organ transplantation is high, and many patients cannot afford it. my country is currently undergoing reforms in the medical and health system, and some areas have included immune drugs for organ transplantation into medical insurance. This reform is being gradually advanced along with the country’s economic development."

Secondly, the transplant medical capacity is insufficient.

"Organ transplantation is a'high-precision' surgery, and it is not easy to train doctors. my country has only systematically trained doctors in batches since 2015." Huang Jiefu pointed out that there are currently 173 hospitals across the country that can perform organ transplant operations, but the actual need is more than 300 Hospitals, “the next step should be to strengthen the construction of ethical standards for hospitals and doctors”

Finally, on the issue of insufficient organ sources.

Huang Jiefu said: "The whole world is facing this problem. Many people still don't understand the concept and ways of organ donation." He said that if these three bottlenecks can be resolved, my country is expected to become the world's largest organ transplant country in three years. .

"Becoming an organ donation volunteer and truly completing organ donation are different concepts." Huang Jiefu specifically mentioned that the former is only an individual's voluntary expression of donation wishes, which is an approval of the concept of organ donation and an expression of supportive attitude.

The latter needs to meet the following conditions: strict death judgment, clinical medical evaluation, signature of immediate family members and third-party witness.
