The number of positive coronavirus cases reached nearly 30,000 on Sunday.

This is all the more important given that the number of patients in intensive care has continued to increase.

The positivity rate (proportion of positive tests in relation to the total tests carried out) continues to increase rapidly, at 13.2%, against 9% only 11 days ago and around 4.5% at the beginning of September.

The number of deaths attributable to the disease stands at 85 on Sunday, bringing the total death toll since the start of the epidemic to 33,477.

The number of patients with the most severe form of the disease and currently hospitalized in an intensive care unit is 1,939, 71 more than the day before.

During the last 24 hours, 147 new patients have been admitted to these services (against 175 on Saturday), and over the last seven days, 1,343 patients have entered them.

Health Minister Olivier Véran said Thursday that France had a total of 5,800 intensive care beds.

At the peak of the epidemic caused by the new coronavirus, in April, more than 7,000 patients were hospitalized in shifts.

The number fell sharply until the end of July, before rising steadily.

In total, 10,897 people with Covid-19 are hospitalized today, 498 more than on Saturday, while the daily number of new patients hospitalized has reached 835.
