4 new initiatives within the 'Film Platform'

"Professional Film Festival" sees the light from the "Sharjah Art" portal

In new initiatives that seek to support and nurture cinematic talents, the Sharjah Art Foundation launched the "Muhtaraf Film" project as part of the Sharjah Film Platform in its third session, which will be held between 14 and 21 November.

The "Film Mutaraf" project includes four main initiatives: the script lab, the pre-production strategy cycle, the participatory forum, and the virtual market for film distribution. The initiatives support and nurture cinematic talents through professional workshops that focus on the different stages of filmmaking.

Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Art Foundation, said: “We are pleased to launch the (Film Professional) in partnership with (Shams), including the distinct and comprehensive cinematic initiatives this project includes.”

She added, "We have always made the Sharjah Film Platform an annual festival that brings together filmmakers and fans from the Emirates and all over the world, and provides them with support in all possible ways, whether by granting production, or by providing expertise and knowledge that enables them to develop their artistic work."

For his part, the President of Sharjah Media City, Dr. Khaled Omar Al Midfa, said: “We feel proud to be part of this program, and to give the participants an opportunity to be part of the film industry.”

For her part, Sheikha Noura Al Mualla, Director of Education and Research at the Sharjah Art Foundation, emphasized the importance of these initiatives with the knowledge and educational provision they provide.

She said: “We hope, through the Cinematic Professional Project, to provide filmmakers with different artistic practices and diversity, with additional resources that contribute to encouraging and supporting them at the individual level, and stimulating the industry in general. The professional provides guidance and guidance on many issues related to the seventh art, such as production mechanisms and writing Script and film distribution.

The workshops held in these initiatives take place before the launch of the Sharjah Film Platform 3 and continue thereafter, as the Script Lab offers a comprehensive course in script writing that takes place online over a period of three weeks from October 25 to November 15, and is available to participants from All nationalities, who have a draft of a long film script in English or Arabic, and want to develop it in a supportive and inspiring environment, by providing intensive training to help them transfer their texts to another level, and focusing on improving the narration and developing characters, and then arriving at a polished scenario, Bankable or Ready for Production.

The "Pre-production Strategies" course, which will be held between November 14 and 21, provides an overview of converting projects into completed films, how to present and sell ideas, divide any scenario into a filming schedule for scenes and shots, determine the film's budget and manage it, and select a suitable location for filming, And choosing actors and staff, and knowing the mechanisms of working with directors, and other important aspects related to the production process.

"Participatory Forum"

The "Participatory Forum" seeks to support emerging filmmakers by connecting them with those with expertise to exchange ideas and discuss their projects in a way that enriches their artistic practice. The forum provides an opportunity for an Emirati writer to win 100,000 dirhams dedicated to converting the script into a feature film.

The "virtual film distribution market" provides an opportunity for participants in the platform to distribute their films on a large scale, through direct contact with filmmakers, sales agents and distributors.
