The measure will be in effect from Saturday morning 8 a.m.

The prefect of Loire-Atlantique took the decision on Thursday to extend the compulsory wearing of a mask to all inhabitants of the department, at least until November 3, as indicated by a prefectural decree published in this regard.

Until then, around half of the territory's population was affected by this obligation (and in particular the inhabitants of the 24 municipalities of Nantes Métropole, Saint-Nazaire or even Châteaubriant).

But Thursday evening, the regional health agency said the coronavirus figures continued to deteriorate.

In Loire-Atlantique, the incidence rate reached 123 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the positivity rate is 8.8%.

Indicators still below the national average but which make the situation "worrying", alerted the authorities.

However, Loire-Atlantique has not yet officially passed the upper threshold, the alert zone reinforced as feared for several days.

To anticipate the evolution of the virus, another measure, that of lowering the gauge of large gatherings from 5,000 to 1,000 people had been decided at the beginning of the week.
