France has recorded 122 deaths linked to the coronavirus over the last 24 hours, a figure which tends to climb, as well as that of admissions in intensive care, according to official figures published Friday evening.

The total number of deaths since the start of the epidemic has reached 33,303, for 834,770 cases, or 25,086 more than the day before, according to Public Health France.

October 2 saw more deaths (136), but to find such a high mortality we have to go back to September 18, which was an exception, and otherwise to May.

The positivity rate continues to rise

New admissions to hospital intensive care units continue to rise sharply: 171 patients on Monday, 226 Tuesday, 193 Wednesday, 219 Thursday and 212 Friday, according to the public database.

This indicator is one of the most closely monitored by the authorities, who fear a congestion of emergency and intensive care services.

The country has 1,791 Covid-19 patients currently hospitalized in intensive care, 50 more than the day before.

The Minister of Health Olivier Véran said Thursday that France had 5,800 intensive care beds.

The positivity rate of those tested also increased: 12.9% on Friday, against 12.6% the day before.
