Most of the cultural schools' funding is provided by the municipalities themselves.

As more municipalities have problems with the economy, the cultural school in particular risks being struck down or affected by cuts, writes Johanna Jaara Åstrand, chairman of the Swedish Teachers' Association, in her blog.

"No one should escape responsibility"

That is why they are now behind a parliamentary motion written by S-members Linus Sköld and Ida Karkiainen.

The motion proposes a law regulation to guarantee music and culture school in all the country's municipalities.

Johanna Jaara Åstrand writes that it "should be an obligation for every municipality to offer music and culture school" and that no municipality should be allowed to "evade responsibility".
