Dozens of organizations and a large number of private citizens have signed a manifesto promoted by the
Teledetodos
platform
in which they urge Parliament to complete the public tender launched three years ago to elect a new board of directors in
RTVE
and thus end the "Degradation" that, according to what they state, public radio and television is suffering in this legislature.
"At stake is not only the corporation but the survival of the entire public service and the democratic credibility of Parliament," they warn in the letter presented this Wednesday at a public event.
As announced during this act by the deputy of
Más País-Equo
Inés Sabanés
, at the last meeting of the Board and Spokespersons of the Mixed Commission of Parliamentary Control of RTVE held last Tuesday the positions in the debate on the reactivation of the public tender were inclined for dispensing with the pre-selection of 20 candidates (19 after the death of
Alicia Gómez Montano
) made by the Committee of Experts and finally raising the
95 initial applicants who were admitted to the call to
the Parliament's appointments committee
.
However, this option, which would be based on the opinion of the lawyers of the Courts who warn in a report lack of equality in that selection in which there are only three women, is not final yet until it is formalized soon by the Bureau of the Commission.
The manifesto presented this Wednesday is also very critical of the work carried out by
Rosa María Mateo
from her position as sole provisional administrator in which she has been 26 months.
"The anomalous extension of the provisional leadership has added appointments and dismissals, and programming decisions that do not match its provisional nature and
lack political and democratic legitimacy
," the signatories of the letter lament.
"As a whole" -they add- "such omissions and decisions have been constantly deteriorating RTVE's image and audience rates, degrading its social weight to the point of seriously threatening the very survival of the public service today."
During the stage in which Rosa María Mateo has been in charge of RTVE, according to the promoters of the writing, “not only has there been no progress in solving the serious problems of RTVE, but both the public company and the tender itself , are at a new crossroads that calls into question their continuity and questions the viability of the public audiovisual communication service ”.
"In these circumstances we cannot fail to denounce
its ongoing degradation under the parliament of the XIV Legislature and the progressive coalition government,
" the promoters of this manifesto with a transversal vocation alert with concern, to which organizations from different fields such as associations have joined of journalists, unions or users of the media.
The letter also underlines that "various European bodies have expressed their concern about
government dependence
on public media in Spain."
