The Arab Reading Challenge, in its fifth session, culminated in student Abdullah Muhammad Murad Abdul Hamid Abu Khalif a champion of the challenge at the level of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, among more than one and a half million students from 3433 schools who participated in the largest reading event of its kind in the Arabic language, in which 21 million participated A student at the level of the Arab world.

Abu Khalaf (from Al-Hoda Al-Muhammadi School) was declared a champion of the Arab Reading Challenge in its fifth session at the level of Jordan, during the digital event at the closing ceremony of the Arab Reading Challenge in the Kingdom, in which the Jordanian Minister of Education, Dr. Tayseer Al-Nuaimi, and the Secretary General of the Arab Reading Challenge initiative participated remotely. , Mona Al-Kindi, and a number of officials and educators in charge of the initiative.

The final qualifiers began last August at the Kingdom’s level, and included 485 finalists, 10 of whom qualified, until the jury selected the national winner for this year's session.

Al-Hassad Educational School in Amman Governorate won the title of Distinguished School in the fifth session of the Arab Reading Challenge, organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, and this year students from 52 countries around the world participate in it.

For his part, Assistant Secretary-General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, Saeed Al-Eter, said: “Within less than five years of its launch by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Reading Challenge succeeded. Al-Arabi aims to be the largest reading movement in the Middle East, which was translated through the participation of more than 21 million students from different parts of the Arab world and from the diaspora. They found in this cultural initiative a gateway to knowledge that opens the doors to the future for them.

He added: “Despite the repercussions of (Covid-19) that directly affected the educational system in the Arab world and the world as a whole, which was reflected in all other extra-curricular activities, the challenge of Arab reading remained the same momentum, amid the large participation of Arab students in the fifth session. Of the largest reading initiative of its kind in the Arab world ».

He stressed that “the educational and cognitive reading escaped, thank God, from the claws of the Corona virus, and the pursuit of knowledge has triumphed over the epidemic, and many of the students’ stories that we followed during the past months showed how the book was one of the factors that helped them overcome this crisis, psychologically and morally. ”

For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Education, Dr. Tayseer Al-Nuaimi, said that the Arab Reading Challenge project;

In its fifth year, it walked at a steady pace and at a growing pace. This year, one million and 524 thousand and 211 male and female students participated, each of whom read no less than 30 books.

On the adoption of digital and virtual technologies for the first time in the implementation of this session of the Arab Reading Challenge, he added: “The ministry’s stakeholders were keen to implement the competition through video technology, and the evaluation was done using electronic forms that were specially prepared for this competition using tablets.”
