After a demonstration on July 14, the caregivers are mobilizing again on the occasion of this Thursday, October 15 of a day of strike and national mobilization.

  • Not convinced by the measures of the Ségur de la Santé, the caregivers are organizing this Thursday a day of strike and national mobilization at the call of unions and collectives of carers.

  • Caregivers denounce their degraded working conditions and demand more human and material resources.

  • For Dr Arnaud Chiche, an anesthesiologist and founder of the Endangered Health Collective, "the government has taken derisory measures".

They were already at their end.

The coronavirus health crisis came to bring them the shock.

Mobilized and over-solicited since the start of the first wave of Covid-19, caregivers denounce a lack of resources and staff that the Ségur de la santé has, in their opinion, not resolved.

This is why a day of mobilization and national strike is scheduled for Thursday in the health, medico-social and social sectors at the call of the CGT, SUD and healthcare collectives.

The goal of this mobilization: "to obtain an increase in salaries, immediate hiring and reopening of beds", indicates Dr. Arnaud Chiche, an anesthesiologist and resuscitator at the Hénin-Beaumont polyclinic (Hauts-de-France) and founder of Collective Health in Danger, which intends to demonstrate this Thursday.

Salary increases and the other measures announced within the framework of the Ségur de la santé are deemed insufficient.

What is missing from this plan?

Means !

The health segur was badly done, and at a bad time.

It makes me angry.

A major reform is being prepared over time and through consultation.

Not in a rush, without anticipation and without the necessary means.

Nor by opposing the hospital to the rest of city medicine.

However, city medicine and the medico-social sector are completely forgotten by this Ségur, midwives have not obtained medical recognition, the situation in nursing homes is scandalous and unworthy and psychiatry is also one of the great absentees of this Ségur.

There is nothing planned for home helpers whose work is as heavy as their pay is low.

Nothing either for general practitioners and liberal nurses, who are not even sure to receive masks in the coming weeks while they are also on the front line in this second wave!

The government is talking about revalorizing the Ondam (National health insurance expenditure target), hiring, massive injection of funds, but when you do the calculations, the account is not there: all that remains is 600 million euros for the hospital, while it would be necessary to inject 60 or 70 billion euros at once for an effective overhaul of health.

We are faced with an executive who does not take, or who does not want to take the measure of the problem, who does not hear the suffering of caregivers.

Despite the announcement effects, Segur's measures are derisory given the unsanitary state of the hospital and the decay of the health system.

Health is actually still not a priority for the government.

The state is concerned about reviving the economy, but this cannot be done to the detriment of health: Emmanuel Macron should probably announce a curfew this Wednesday evening, which is proof that today, the coronavirus is stronger than the measures taken so far.

If we had a strong hospital, better equipped with beds, human and material resources, health measures would perhaps be more flexible and the recovery of the economy easier.

You don't feel heard by the government.

If the executive listened to you, what would you recommend?

We have to do more and better and that requires a lot more money!

We must make the healthcare professions attractive.

Because if we want to make people believe that the Ségur de la santé is a shock of attractiveness for the hospital, it is false.

183 euros of salary increase is not enough, it takes 300 euros more for caregivers and paramedical staff, in order to align salaries with the European average.

We also need measures to accelerate the career of doctors and increase the hardship of night guards.

Massive hires are also needed.

Admittedly, the government announces them, but if they are envisaged under the conditions of the Ségur of health, there will be nobody.

No one will want a career in health with these salaries and working conditions.

Because the issue of staffing is central: in France, there is on average one nurse for a dozen patients in a general medical service, which is half as much as in some countries with a similar standard of living.

It's unmanageable!

It is essential to review the ratios of nursing staff per patient.

To this shock of attractiveness must also be added a capacity shock.

The hospital is chronically saturated, so you have to have decompression airlocks when you are in a period of an epidemic of Covid-19 or other diseases.

This is why we must create hospitals, a real health reserve, but also a lot of beds.

In ten years, 60,000 hospital beds have been closed, 20,000 must be reopened, and 15,000 additional resuscitation beds created.

And in nursing homes, there needs to be a sort of “shock of dignity and respect”.

This involves injecting a lot of money and medical and paramedical personnel, as well as activity patrols to bring life and animation into the daily life of our seniors, this will create more jobs. .

And we cannot rethink health without city medicine, where a shock of fluidity and facilitation must be undertaken: the administrative burdens of city caregivers must be reduced, also the administrative burden on families, which wastes time, must be reduced. and chances of care.

At the same time, the health prevention component is fundamental: promoting physical activity and healthy nutrition to prevent obesity and metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, which would have the effect of unclogging the health system, in town and in hospitals. .

You are an anesthetist resuscitator in…, do you feel ready to face the second wave of Covid-19?

Better armed than during the first wave?

Not at all !

Hospitals are not prepared for a massive influx of Covid patients.

We have even fewer staff than during the first wave, because the caregivers are exhausted, exhausted, disgusted, resign, but also because many of them are on sick leave, for burn-out or for the Covid.

We are at such an understaffed level that we ask caregivers who tested positive for the coronavirus but asymptomatic to come to work anyway.

The health reserve touted by the government is not a reality today.

We do not have the human resources necessary to do our job.

It is a source of suffering and abuse.

However, we love our job, we do it anyway, by vocation, but to the detriment of our own health and our family life.

It is untenable, and that the government will have to realize.
