According to the Hainan Provincial Meteorological Department, Typhoon No. 16 may become the first typhoon to land in Hainan this year. This typhoon is both an autumn typhoon and a "earth typhoon" in the South China Sea.

The South China Sea is one of the sea areas with the most frequent typhoon activities. Tropical cyclones that are generated in the South China Sea waters and have a development intensity of tropical storm level and above are commonly called "earth typhoons" in the South China Sea.

Most of the "earth typhoons" in the South China Sea do not have a typical structure, and the cloud system structure is asymmetrical, with less typical spiral cloud bands appearing, with small areas and unclear eye areas.

Short time from generation to landing/impact.

The "earth typhoon" in the South China Sea is easily affected by surrounding factors (such as high-altitude flow field, cold air, etc.), and path forecasting is still a major difficulty.

The rain disaster of the "earth typhoon" in the South China Sea is more prominent than the wind disaster.

Among the "earth typhoons" that landed on Hainan Island, Wanning was the favorite place to visit.

From 1949 to 2019, a total of 42 "earth typhoons" landed on Hainan Island, of which 16 "earth typhoons" landed on Wanning.
