Nearly 13,000 new cases of Covid-19 and 87 deaths in France in 24 hours

Hospital pressure linked to the coronavirus epidemic continues to increase in France, with a further increase in intensive care hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, according to figures released Tuesday by Public Health France.

The number of Covid-19 patients placed in intensive care rose to 1,633 this Tuesday, or 94 more than the day before.

New intensive care admissions have also increased, with 226 patients admitted on Tuesday (55 more than on Monday).

At the peak of the epidemic in early April, more than 7,000 patients were hospitalized in intensive care, mainly those who needed to be placed on artificial respiration.

This number then fell sharply until the end of July, before resuming a steady increase.

The current national capacity is around 5,000 intensive care beds.

An even higher positivity rate

The other indicators remain unfavorable, with 87 deaths in hospitals in 24 hours (96 the day before), bringing the total death toll since the start of the epidemic to at least 32,933, specifies the site of the health agency.

On the testing front, some 12,993 new cases of contamination were detected in 24 hours: this is more than Monday (8,505), but far from the records of recent days, with 27,000 cases recorded on Saturday.

The positivity rate of the tests (proportion of positive people out of all those tested) continues to increase, however, to 12% (against 11.8% on Monday).
