Drug seizures, closures of "places of radicalization", fines for sexist outrages ... Gérald Darmanin and Marlène Schiappa engaged this Tuesday in a communication exercise by unveiling, for the first time, a series of carefully chosen "indicators" of the activity of the police.

Cannabis on the rise, cocaine on the decline

Gérald Darmanin, upon his appointment to the Interior, had said to make the fight against drug trafficking “the alpha and omega” of his policy.

Since July, "more than 200 anti-narcotics operations" have been carried out in "neighborhoods", he said, which have led to 831 police custody.

Side seizures, 4.2 tons of cannabis were intercepted in September against three tons in August.

On the other hand, police officers and gendarmes only got hold of 277 kilos of cocaine against 1.3 tons in August, a month marked by "major operations which gave rise to large seizures", justified Gérald Darmanin.

In total, “1,189 traffickers” were arrested in September, ie “an increase of a quarter compared to what was done this summer” and “1,107 trafficking” were dismantled, without further details on their sizes.

In 2019, nearly 100 tons of cannabis and 15 tons of cocaine had been seized by the police, at the same level as the records already reached in 2017 and 2018.

250 fixed fines per day

Between their generalization on September 1 and October 8, 9,532 flat-rate fines of 200 euros were issued to consumers of narcotics, mainly cannabis, "that is to say more than 250 per day", underlined the Minister of the Interior.

Seine-Saint-Denis, Bouches-du-Rhône, Alpes-Maritimes and Paris are the departments which recorded the most verbalizations.

More than 2,000 sexist outrages noted

"More than 2,000 offenses for sexist contempt have been noted by the police" since the entry into force of the law in 2018 to fight against street harassment, said Marlène Schiappa.

The Minister Delegate noted an upward trend, with 142 violations noted in September, against 86 at the same period last year.

Marlène Schiappa recalled having asked the prefects to "double" this number of verbalizations.

73 “places of radicalization” closed

Since the start of the year, 73 places suspected of radicalization have been closed, including twelve in September.

It is an undeclared mosque and a non-contract school in the Hérault, a cultural and associative establishment in the Loire, five shops and a drinks outlet, detailed the minister.

In addition, with the departmental cells for the fight against Islamism and community withdrawal (CLIR), 650 control operations carried out in September enabled the family allowance funds (CAF) and the Urssaf services to recover 200,000 respectively. and € 3.5 million in the form of adjustments.

231 radicalized foreigners "to be expelled"

France currently has on its territory 231 foreigners in an irregular situation followed for radicalization "that we must expel", of which 180 are currently imprisoned, specified Gerald Darmanin.

They are among the 851 illegal immigrants currently registered in the file of alerts for the prevention of terrorist radicalization (FSPRT).
